The Hunger Day

The Hunger Day 14.-16.9.2017 is the biggest annual fundraising campaign of the Finnish Red Cross. With donations made to the Disaster Relief Fund The Red Cross helps the victims of natural disasters and conflicts around the world, and in sudden accidents in Finland too.

Our students participated The Hunger Day this year as well by collecting money at the streets of Oulu. They commented the experience with following words:

"It feels good to help people when you know that the help is needed. We made also new friends."

Accessibility in Oulu

In the meeting in Braga our main theme will be "Celebrating Difference". We are going to consider different kinds of special needs and disabilities. We will, for instance, explore the city from a different perspective: how does the city take into account different kinds of special needs?

To get our students who were willing to participate the meeting in Braga in to the theme, we asked them to make videos about accessibility in Oulu, our home town. Here you can see two of them.

Photo Exhibition in Melilla

In the meeting in Melilla we had a photo exhibition where every school had sent two to three photos. Theme in all the photos was equality in daily life. Here you can see almost all the amazing photos seen in the exhibition. (Unfortunately we don't have names of all the photos or photographers.)

Our school and Swedish speaking Finns

This is our school seen from the street. It consist of four buildings, and under those roofs there are students from pre-school to high school. Students' ages variate thus from 6 years to 19 years.

Erasmus+ corner in our school

Meeting in Melilla, April 2017

In April 2017 we met our partner schools again. This time we had also our students with us. The students lived in the Spanish host families and participated the lives of their host sisters and brothers. 

Our students Alexandra and Ossi represented Finland together with students from Laanila High School.

At the internationell brunch Alexandra and Ossi taught the others to make some typical Finnish-Swedish starters, rye bread with cold potatoes and salmon.

We got to know also a lot of Melilla´s Old Town, Melilla la Vieja,  with Spanish students as our guides.

Melilla, located on the north coast of Africa, is an unique place, and it's also a port for the immigrants to reach Europe. During the week we learned for example about the four religions living in harmony beside each others. We also heard about fantastic work that is been done with the immigrants and less fortune children and young people.

The week was amazing and fruitful. We all learned a lot not only about the global perspective but also about ourselves.

Racism Free Day

Racism Free Day in our school. We tried for example how it feels when someone greets you in a different way than you are used to, and what it's like to make a puzzle together when everybody has a different way to do it. Students were given roles in a random way.

Theme day: Sexual Minorities

Today we had a theme day about sexual minorities. In various workshops we learned new things and challenged our ways to think. It was amazing how motivated our students were.
