The Newspaper Project

Under the Finnish course about media our students wrote different kinds of media texts. All of the products were about the project themes: minorities, equality, racism and refugee crisis. We collected the texts and made an own newspaper called "Lights".

Johanna wrote an article about equality. For the text she interviewed the headmaster and asked about the equality in our school.

Isabella wrote an reportage about a cartoon exhibition that presented refugees' journey to Finland. "We should try to understand immigrants better", she says.

Kristina wrote an article about racism and interviewed her friend who is immigrant.

Mikael wrote an comment about the refugee crisis.

Calle wrote a column about reception centres.

Aro interviewed his brother about the refugee crisis in Europe.

Kaapo interviewed his father about his emigration to Sweden. "I was surprised that the Finnish people were mean to my father for hanging out with the Swedes", he tells.

John attended a Ken's concert and wanted to share his thoughts about it.

Aino wrote an article where she discusses down syndrome from her uncle's point of view.

Samuel wrote a review about Showtime's serie called Shameless. "The serie gives a different perspective on equality", he says

Ester wrote about a traditional hymn that people are used to sing in the end of school year. It has been discussed if we should quit it because it's a hymn and may be against other religions' ways. "It's weird how they blame certain religious groups for the problem that the Finnish people have created themselves", she says.

Ossi wrote a column about how people behave racist in the Internet.

Beata and Eedith wrote a column about shameless language and freedom of speech without any responsibilities. They also wrote an article about a girl who used to dance ballet and became a soldier. "It's strange how little amount of girls want to do military service", they say.
